On Visibility: Go Forth and Multiply
posted on January 1, 2010
We’re talking about our points program. When you interact with the site to make our online community a better place, you earn points as you go.
Let’s say you blog twice a month and add events to the calendar. You’ll be earning points left and right. These points tally up and rank you among the other members. The more points you have, the more prominent you are in our directory and search results. With your level of activity, you’ll be one of the most visible members on our site. Visibility allows good things to happen.
Get active, and watch yourself move up the ranks. Don’t be surprised if one day you are featured right there on our homepage or our exclusive weekly referral newsletter. And don’t worry, the same people can’t always win these special distinctions every month, we spread the NIA love around. It makes it more fun and fair for everyone.
It works like this:
- points are earned when you complete certain activities.
- points have expiration dates, so depending on the type of points you're earning they may expire in 30 days, 90 days or 1 year or never.
- positioning of member profiles throughout the site is based on the number of current points accumulated within a certain period of time.
- featured members of the Month and Week are determined by the number of points accumulated during those periods
Points are automatically earned whenever you:
- add a profile picture (+5 points)
- add a logo (+5 points)
- add a Bio/Description (+5 points)
- add a category (+1 point, max 5 categories)
- add tags (+1 point, max 10 tags)
- post a blog entry
- add a calendar event
- add a member-to-member discount
- still other ways, and we’ll be adding more over time!*
And remember, the point system isn't just designed to help you earn a better position on the site; it's also there to encourage you to do the things that are going to help you get the most value from your membership anyway!
