Spend a Buck, Save a Buck: Discounts that Outpace Fees

posted on January 1, 2010

“You get what you pay for.”
Why not get more?
With your $10 a month (or less) subscription to NetworkInAustin, you’re immediately eligible to enjoy exclusive member-to-member discounts on participating networking events or professional services.
To reduce your membership costs to zero or less than zero, all you’d likely need to do is attend one or two networking events a month that dangled a NIA member discount.
Alternatively, say you’re in the market for professional goods and services of some kind. Browse the NIA directory for members who do what you’re looking for, and see if they don’t offer a member-to-member discount. If they don’t have one listed for some reason…ask!
These savings opportunities could range anywhere from “take 10% off” to “save $15 on your first…” to “FREE”.  It’s up to our members to decide what’s appropriate. We don’t regulate or get involved in any way with these discounts or redemptions, other than to enable and encourage members to offer each other at least a token incentive.
These discounts help the community engage more and save our members plenty of money.
There’s still another way to look at it, though.
What about seeing it from the producer side? You’re hosting an event...costing you considerable. You want people to turn out!  By offering your fellow NIA members a small incentive like a discounted ticket, you’re allowing the following good things to happen :
·         getting more seats filled for your event
·         justifying the time, effort, and expense you’ve invested so far for your event
·         creating buzz for your event, because these are Austin’s best networkers you’ve just registered
Plus, it goes without saying that offering member to member discounts on your company’s services only increases your chances of getting the sale and starting a long-lasting and profitable relationship with a new client.
Spend a little, save more. Here, it’s up to you how much more you get than what you pay for.
