Be Your Own Press Agent

posted on January 1, 2010

You don’t have to hire and manage a PR company to advertise your organization or beat the bushes for event attendees or spend a lot of valuable time posting fliers or press releases or emailing everyone you know.  With your subscription to NIA, the easy way to get the word out about your organization’s next Austin event is to leverage Network in Austin’s event management tools.

In 2 to 3 minutes, you can add an event through your profile tools (My Events) that clearly shows potential Austin attendees:

  • Your event title
  • Your event description
  • Your event day and time
  • Your event venue name
  • Your event location on a map
  • The price of your event for members and non-members
  • The discount price for NIA members
  • A link to your organization’s page on Network in Austin
  • The type of event it is
  • Tags that relate to your event
  • Share options through Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Digg, and “email a friend”
  • Save to Calendar options through Google Calendar, Yahoo Calendar, iCalendar, and yCalendar
  • A button to register attendees to your event
  • A list of other NIA members who will be attending this event
  • A view of how many site visitors are interested in this event

You can also set up the date range into the future that your event will be held, the frequency of your event (weekly, monthly, irregular, etc), and whether or not you’d like this event featured on your profile.

Your event will live on our highly visible and trafficked Austin Networking Events calendar according to the date range and frequency you specify. And any visitor to NetworkinAusin.com can search for and find your event through any of the above filter attributes (cost, frequency, date, location, day, time, type, or keyword).

So all the legwork is practically done for you at this point. Through your other online avenues, drive traffic to your NIA events page and remember, when folks RSVP on your events page, you earn points. By advertising member and NIA member discounts, you give people another reason to come. And that’s the point right?

Take it a step further and post a blog that provides background on your meeting topic or speaker. Generate as much buzz as possible and DO IT YOURSELF. You will benefit the most from the exercise and the outcome.
