Why is the insurance industry attractive?

posted on October 29, 2009

In today's turbulent economic times, no career choice should be made lightly. It is important to have an open mind and explore all your options. As my Father-in-law once told me, "Don't take the first opportunity that is given to you". If you have never explored the insurance industry as a career choice then start today.

The insurance industry is recession resistant! Your success is not based or subject to the market. Think about it...by law you must have auto insurance if you drive a vehicle and if you have a mortgage you must have homeowners insurance. Now that you realize that your product is now a commodity lets go into the most attractive part called residual income. Residual income is recurring payments of income that you receive long after the initial sale is made, usually in specific amounts and at regular intervals. In the insurance industry, every six months there is a payout because auto insurance renews semi-annually. So an easy example is if you make $50,000 in new business sales your first year and increase your sales to $75,000 in year two then, at the end of year two your total income will equate to $125,000 (100% Retention). At the end of the day, people do business with people they like and trust.
