Continuing about communicating with the power to engage....

Lots of evidence that the manager's power to communicate effectively with employees is root cause of employees' become engaged...and staying engaged.

Here are 4 quick and easy tips for starting your presentation, whether it's big and formal or personal and informal:

Start with a Question. By opening any meeting with a question and then waiting for the individual(s) to answer, you immediately create two-way conversation. When both/all parties are conversing, you've got the first step to engagement.

Start with a What is YOUR ____. By inviting others to express their ideas, issues, fears, concerns, suspicions...whatever is the focus of your conversation, you invite them to engage in the matters at hand.

Start with an Admission. By admitting that you don't know all the answers (if you don't) or that you cannot predict the future (if you can't) or that you have not received all the information (if you haven't), you cement your authenticity. Authenticity provides credibility. Credibility fosters engagement.

Start with the Simple Truth. By not glossing or glitzing what is really happening, you carry your authenticity > credibility > engagement even further.
