Live, learn, grow!

Do you have more skills than you did last week?  Are you a better worker than you were last month?  Have you continued to grow year after year?  Many of us only learn new things when we must.  We buy a new VCR or some kind of Smart Phone, and we must learn how to make it work.  Sometimes there is new software at work that we need to master or possibly a law that is important for us to understand for our taxes.

Why is that?  We don’t have time.  We don’t have the interest.  We don’t have the drive.  We get comfortable with the status quo and ride gently down the creek of life trying not to tip over the inner-tube.  This is because we haven’t learned that life is actually a raging river full of action thrills.  Life can take us on some amazing journeys if we know where to find them.

I think that we all need to grow, all the time.  We need to get better every week, every month, and every year.  The more we learn, the more valuable we are to our families, our companies and the world around us.  One way to make sure you are learning is to have an Education Plan.  Decide on something you want to learn and build a plan to make it happen.  Learn a new language,  or more about history, world culture, communication, or social skills.  Learn a new sport, a new hobby, a new style of cooking.

The reason we learned in school is because we had to.  So give yourself some structure and get your brain dusted off.  Schedule time each week for your discoveries.  Tell friends and family your education goals so they can help keep you accountable.  Write down goals and timelines.  An Education Plan should be one of the top priorities in your life.  The more you learn, the more you grow.  Live, learn, grow!
