Health? Productivity? Engagement? Say wha-?

Employee engagement efforts almost always focus on the obvious:
- Motivation tactics
- Incentive plans
- Management involvement
- Team support
There's more to building and maintaining engagement than the above list. One key factor can be your business's Health and Productivity plan.
Ron Loeppke, Co-chairman of American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, states that:
the health of the workforce inextricably is linked to the productivity of the workforce and, therefore, to the health of the bottom line. .... Health-related productivity costs are four times higher than medical and pharmacy costs.
A business improves the spirit of its workforce by demonstrating that it values employees. Such demonstrations of value are not just for the immediate work the individual employee performs. Demonstrations of the employee's health and well-being contribute directly to employee engagement.
In 1990, the Department of Labor reported
"For every dollar that an employer invests in an Employee Assistance Plan, there will be a savings of anywhere from $5 to $16."
Those are 1990 figures. By 2000, the DOL findings of savings had risen to $17.
