Finding Communications, Design and Web Talent in Austin

posted on December 7, 2009

Does your business need some help from writers, designers, communicators or perhaps tech people?

During Tim Hayden's recent MOLS session about social media, one audience member asked where to find Web-savvy people to make his Web site mobile-friendly (as Tim was suggesting in his presentation.)  I began to think about how often I'm asked where to find good talent in Austin, specifically people who are proficient in online work.

I know of three places where I'd send those who need solid, professional results:

***  Freelance Austin.  I'm a Board member for this organization, so I'm rather biased, but if you check our Find a Freelancer section, you'll see a wealth of writers, designers, photographers and others with a flair for creating dynamite content. You can also request to post a specific job on our Job Board.

***  Austin's Association for Women in Communications.  Actually, Freelance Austin is an offshoot of the very active AWC Austin chapter (I'm an AWC member) but AWC tends to have more people in public relations and marketing, if that's the sort of help you need. Their job bank is mostly focused on staff positions, but they are open to longer-term contractual positions.  Click here to go to the job submissions page.

***  Door64 - Austin High-Tech Online. This tech networking site is homegrown here in Central Texas by Austinite Matt Genovese. It is pretty geeky in terms of focus, but don't think that some of the great workers who frequent the site wouldn't be interested in your "small" Web project. It's a tough economy out there. Click here to post to the Door64 Job Board.  By the way, if you want to get a bit more online-savvy yourself, Door64's tech events/workshops calendar is an excellent place to find gatherings and seminars.

***  Update 12 Dec 09 - DeNucci and Company here in Austin is run by Network in Austin member Patti DeNucci (disclosure: I've spoken with her about becoming a member of her freelancer's "reserve" group.) She specializes in connecting high-quality talent with clients who need it, so take a look at her referral site.

I know that there are other resources in town, but these are the ones I know best. If something terrific was overlooked....well, write a NetworkInAustin blog post to tell us where you would find talent!
