A few reasons you should backup your files remotely

posted on October 4, 2010

Backups are critical. If you aren't doing a backup of your critical data on a regular basis, please stop reading and go do now.

If you are doing a backup, that is great. However, there are some great reasons to do offsite/remote backups in addition to a regular backup. They are:

  1. Remote/offsite will protect you against disaster, i.e. fire, flood or other disaster
  2. It will protect you against theft
  3. It will protect you if your backup fails...or, at the very least, give you another option
  4. It has become inexpensive and very secure to use offsite backups

If you aren't doing an offsite backup, please consider it. Unfortunately, over 60% of companies that suffer a data disaster go out of business within a year. Some studies say that 93% of companies are out of business within 18 months.

Scary stats aside, put some thought into what it would mean for your business if you lost your data and then decide what works best for you.
