Always Buy Term Life Insurance!

posted on August 23, 2010

All of the experts recommend it, but everyday there are companies that sell permanent life insurance, whether it be whole life or universal life insurance.

Does this sound like somewhere you would want to put your money?

  • For the 1st 2-5 years, you could have a negative return on your investment.
  • 1%-5% return on your money afterward
  • If you want to make a withdrawal on your money, it must be in the form of a loan at 6%-8%
  • If you should die, your family could lose the investment.

This is what permanent life insurance is.  The benefits are that it is insurance that will be with you for the rest of your life, but is it worth it?  Permanent life insurance comes at a much higher premium and does not give you the return on investment that a good solid mutual fund does.

This is why the experts tell you to buy term life insurance and invest the difference.  Term rates are usually a fraction of the cost of permanent, and come with a higher death benefit.  So buy term with a higher death benefit, and invest the remaining premium, that you would be spending on whole life, into a good solid mutual fund that gives you 10%-12%.

Insurance is not meant for saving....does your auto insurance come with a savings account?  No!  Always buy Term!!
